Bozburun Town

In ancient times, Bozburun was famous for its Marble quarries.  These quarries were still in use until the 19th century.

There is evidence of considerable civilization around the entire Bozburun Peninsula with many terraces that can be seen cut into much of the mountainsides where once olive, lemon and orange groves would have been cultivated as one of the main industries.  However more recently tourism, fishing, sponge diving and apiculture (bee keeping) are the main means of livelihood for its inhabitants.  Its Thyme honey is famous across Turkey.

Bozburun is well known for its quality production of gullets on a par with Bodrum and Güllük.

It is nestled deep within  Yeşilova Körfezi and behind the protection of the islands of Kizil and Kızıl Adası.  One can now experience the quiet but quaint harbour town with its authentic Turkish local markets, shops and restaurants rambling around the harbour’s  edge.

If you decide to call in to the harbour you will need to use your anchor in depths of around 3 metres and go astern to the west or east harbour walls.  There are a few berths if you get there early enough alongside the northern wall.  You will be able to obtain electricity and water but may pay around 40 to 50TL to moor overnight and use those facilities.  You can wander around this small town and find a restaurant you will enjoy.  The ones overlooking the harbour will offer showers and toilets.  You will also be able to experience an evening meal on the quay side.  If you wish, you can anchor in the bay to the west and south west of the harbour and dinghy ashore to enjoy the gentle night life of Bozburun. Approaching Bozburun you will find many small anchorages with ancient ruins littering the waters' edge especially on your left as you motor or sail in.
