Datça Town

Datça  is around 14 NM from Dirsek Bükü on the end of Atabol Burun and will be directly windward so makes a fairly good beat against the prevailing winds.

Datça has become more of a touristy place to visit, but has kept its charm and Turkish feel about it.  You will find the costs to be less than Marmaris and Bodrum, but they now produce some entertainment for yachtsman and tourists alike.  Carpet shops are big news here and you may find some good deals.  There is a mineral spring-fed lake halfway along the west bay.   Warm water seeps from the lake bed 2 metres down making swimming here very pleasant and there are a line of appealing cafe-bars overlook the stone dam.  Here you can also get a relaxing massage under the waterfall too. You will find many restaurants mainly on the sea front and overlooking the east bay.  They are fairly indistinguishable in terms of price and quality.  There are the Iskele, Karaca and Kapani Yeri on the bluff overlooking the harbour, and the Hüsnünün Yeri, down on the fishing boat dock offering the usual list of kebabs and fish.  Cheaper places include the nicely decorated Defne Pide Salonu on the main street and inland side walk eateries such as Zekeriya Sofrası, Korsan, Valentino and Kemal, and many more.  The most frantic activity you'll find in Datça is after dark at a handful of music pubs and bars along the west harbour and beyond on the west each.  Among others there's Bambu Bar, and Maradonna's, with Eclipse  perhaps being the most popular of the lot.

Like several cities in Asia Minor, Cnidus was a Peloponnesian Dorian foundation circa 1000 BC, its original site was located near present-day Datça.  Around the middle of the 4th century BC Cnidus was moved to its present location.
