Tomb Bay (ancient Crya)

Tomb Bay is the site of ancient Cyra, a Carian and Lycian city state. The Carian's are thought to have been natives of Asia Minor while the Lycian's were driven from Crete by Minos of Knossos. The ruins date from the 5th century BC. There are many tombs, the remains of a Roman-Byzantine bath once fed by a nearby spring, and a Cryan acropolis. Other ruins situated around the bay are two 4th century BC Ionic temple tombs, three house tombs, numerous pigeon-hole tombs and a vaulted tomb.

Within Tomb Bay is one of Göcek’s most famous painters  “Bedri Rahmi (Taskaya) pictures”. It is named after the poet Rahmi Eyupoglu who painted a fish on a rock behind a fountain in 1973 and who was one of the first blue voyagers. Behind the painting a Lycian rock tomb is hidden. This bay also is a popular stop for locals. During the high season yachts can replenish their fresh water tanks here (the cost is between 8 to 10 TL per tank).

The Nomad restaurant is idyllically set at the head of the bay and can take up to 35 yachts  all with tailed mooring lines.  There are showers, toilets and WiFi.  The restaurant also boasts a barber where you can get a haircut, shave and massage overlooking the bay.  You may relax in a hammock or play table tennis by the waters edge.  The food is of good quality and there are a number of pleasant walks through the trees to the tombs and onto the promontory where there have been ancient dwellings now in ruins. Telephone number is 0900 544 664 12 48.

The restaurant is run by the same family as Boynuz Bükü and they also posses a water sports power boat where you can enjoy parasailing, and many more rides.  On the right side of the bay is a tree swing for the youngsters amongst you who enjoy thrills and spills into the sea.
